The complexities, and necessity, of friendship. The second installment of a weekly series of essays and writing prompts for finding connection and creativity during the month of February.
This was such a wonderful meditation and so much resonated. Definitely love having librarians who know my family, so that made me smile. Last year I read a book called Hanging Out by Sheila Liming and I thought it was quite good. She was on the NY Times podcast with Ezra Klein and that was a fun conversation. Thanks, as always for giving me some things to think about and you've definitely inspired me to put myself out there more to my in-person world.
Love the reflections here. So much of time feels structured that just swinging by to spend time spontaneously and causally feels so out of the norm. I even miss water cooler chats that would happen at work - just small moments to connect with others. Thank you for these thoughtful prompts! ❤️
In another continent and in another time, we had people popping by on a weekly basis and we were never bothered about appearances - whether the house was clean and dusted or the fridge stocked. We were always happy to see our friends. We still welcome this in our home but it's clearly "not done" and friends always look apologetic if they do stop by without giving us ample warning (we now live in the Pacific Northwest). Wonderful essay Anna.❤️
This is a beautiful reminder to text my friends 🤍 I also love the idea of your creativity meet-up. May need to borrow that one.
Please do!

Yes! That was referenced in the NYT article I read but I haven’t read the book yet. On the list! Will look up the interview too.
I would love if people just stopped by. Maybe someday I'll live somewhere that is easier.
Maybe one day I will hightail it to Utah, get a snowmobile and do just that 😜
So beautiful Anna - and love those definitions of “winter friend”!
So grateful for my winter friends ✨✨✨

I would swing by if I lived closer to you!
