Beautiful. It reminded me of the Virginia Woolf quote: "The great revelation never did come. Instead, there were little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark..."
Beautifully written. I had not heard of Chandler O’Leary before now. We’ve just moved to the Northernmost Southern Gulf Island here in on the West coast of Canada. I’ll be picking up her “Island Time” book soon, thank you.
Thank you so much. And I bet you will love the book. Another book comes to mind - have you read On Island: Life Among the Coast Dwellers by Pat Carney?
What a beautiful post, and I am so startled and saddened to learn this news about Chandler O’Leary. I've been a fan of hers for years, and a recipient of her occasional notes via her mailing list. It seems like just a week or two ago she was happily announcing events for her new book. So very, very sad.
There's so much here to ponder on, Anna, thank you. I was just writing about light and darkness in my journal, and then I read your post, which resonated deeply.
I’m having a serendipity moment reading this, since I’m, in a larger scope, dealing with griefing about democracy in my country but also today I woke up and there was a power out, I literally had no light. I decided to go out and one of the things that healed my frustrated mind was to see the birds, see the plant’s leaves, see the green. I’m living one of the most terrorific scenes of the history of my country, but at least I’m alive to see birds and leaves.
What a compelling "prompt" - definitely more of an inspiration. In fact, the only word I can think of to describe the essence of your post is "voluptuous." Thank you! I look forward to reading more of your Creative Fuel.
So lovely, Anna. Thank you. There's much here to ponder and muse upon. I was so sorry to hear of Chandler's passing. And at such a young age. How to wrestle with it all? i was struck by the thought that her name means candle maker/seller and that seemed so very apt. I am so grateful for your writing and all that you share with us.
