Oooof this really hit a tender spot! I spend so much time daydreaming about all the “other versions” of myself - often weighing what my life would look like if I took this or that path… it’s a sort of nostalgia for the imagined life. Sometimes I think that all those versions really are happening simultaneously (like in the film “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once”). Also, it’s funny how the grass is truly greener in our mind - while you may crave the glamorous big city life, I long for the country-living (but realistically, your grass is truly greener!) 🌾
Oh i love moss (even better than grass haha!). And I totally feel you regarding the city offerings... same for me with the country offerings (the stars, silence, nature etc) ✨
This really spoke to me. I love José González idea of "Keep it raggedy." It's so direct and on point! Capitalism and marketing keep pushing the idea of the "perfect" whatever--the perfect house, or outfit, or decor. And it serves who? And what?
And the idea that the unpolished rough cut is where the good stuff is? Oooooh. Yes. I took two online watercolor classes in the last two days and I feel this so hard right now! "The not knowing, the unfinished, the unvarnished." Also, the inexpert, the heartfelt effort, the searching for technique and the refining of practice. I'm learning again and again that this is where the juice is.
I've read this through about 3 times now. It feels like looking in a mirror. Each time seeing a different thing. Seeing with tenderness the nostalgia for different paths. Noticing where that nostalgia offers me a choice here and now. Reflecting on who it is that I am finding in this 5th decade of living.
I was feeling very nostalgic today and this was very resonant. I love the idea of tethers and right now they are painting, and noodles, and soft slippers, and milkweed.
I also want to say thank you for introducing me to Tessa hulls. Finished her book this week and was blown away! Looking forward to watching the recording of the most recent C&E this week. 💞

And in this case, the grass is just moss 😜 I think it’s not even wanting the city but wanting what the city offers…. Like your recent dinner!!

I live in the south of France and I'll think of you next time I have a picnic 😉
Thank you :)

How do I take part in the 'retreat' underway now?
