Reading about treasures reminded me that yesterday while I was vacuuming, I sucked up a tiny piece of wool that I know lives in my swimming fleece pocket. I plucked it from a barbed wire fence in Iceland. I’m glad you wrote this so now I remember to go fish it out of the vacuum cleaner dust bag.

This warmed my heart today. The way you describe creations that carry with them energy and curiosity in particular — that speaks to me so deeply! Thank you for reminding me of what matters.

So glad you liked it! Always feel like I’m just always all over the place with thoughts and words and never really know what the takeaway is 😂

Almost like ... you're being creative? ;)

There's a conductor I know--he's younger than I am but our parents were close friends when we were little--who had an interview a few years ago where he talked about everything in your life, including the plate you choose to place your dinner on, having the potential to be art. I love knowing that that appreciation existed in him in our scruffy, tiny Montana town, and that his parents (who ran an auto body shop until recently) always nurtured that spirit in him and his brothers.

I have a few oyster shells full of small collected items from a beach park close to me. They serve as little reminders of how magical the forest and sea are in the northwest. They are tiny installations until their eventual return back to the earth.

This was such a beautiful read Anna. I too collect little objects here and there as reminders, inspiration and memories so your writing really resonated with me. Perhaps it’s a habit as a third-culture kid as we try to find meaning and make connections - even if it’s for a week in a new place or treasures kept for years.
