Today is the first day of fall. It’s also my birthday, and the first day of a new decade for me.
I love that my birthday has always corresponded with the autumn equinox. It’s the marker of seasonal change and a new year wrapped up into one, imbued with a sense of beginning.
These moments are cause for celebration. A little time to pause, to reassess, to move forward in a new way.
I was talking with someone earlier this week about the moment that you finish a big project. The feeling of pride and accomplishment that surfaces—with it a boost of joy and dopamine—but that can often quickly slip away as your mind moves on to the next thing, the next project, the next item on the to-do list.
How can we hold onto that joy, that moment of celebration, a little longer?
