24 Days of Making, Doing, and Being: December 2
Adorning our spaces.
Welcome to 24 Days of Making, Doing, and Being, a digital Advent calendar for slowing down and making space for presence, creativity, and gratitude.
On the top shelf of my closet, shoved all the way to the right, next to the extra sheets and a pair of cowboy boots, there is one small plastic storage box. On top of it there are several pieces of folded fabric.
This is my holiday decoration collection in its entirety. The box has an assortment of ornaments, either from childhood or ones that I have made or gathered over the years. The pieces of fabric are textiles that only get used this time of year, a tactile marker for the beginning of the festive season. A handwoven red and white runner to put on the coffee table, a square piece of Swedish linen to put under a candle. It’s not an enormous collection, but it feels like an abundant collection, each item with its own story, its own character.
If interior decorating had a peak season, it would probably be this one.
